Last Tuesday morning, I had the pleasure of serving Velma at the starter's window in preparation for her regular Tuesday Ladies Competition. Surfer's Juniors are in for the wins
Last Sunday our Juniors competed in the second last round of the season, playing against Burleigh golf club at Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club. It is with great delight that our Juniors had a great result with a 7/3 win over Burleigh.
A big shout out to Cooper Sabotic with his 7/5 victory, as well as Jacob Green and Liam Cafferkey for remaining undefeated for the season thus far.
The last round for the season is held here at Surfers, where the team will play against Emerald Lakes for a potential finals berth.

Liam lowered his handicap by 10 shots. Don't get left behind
One of my star pupils, Liam Cafferkey has gone from strength to strength with his golfing development in such a short time. Liam had played excellent golf last Saturday, shooting 69 nett and winning his first junior monthly medal! Not only has Liam ticked off this milestone, but he has managed to reduce his handicap by a massive 10 shots in the space of three months! We have some exciting news to announce, with Teaching Professional Ali Orchard now teaching every Monday here at Surfers Paradise. Ali will be conducting the Ladies Golf Improvement Clinic every Monday between 9am-10am and is available for private lessons from 10am onwards. We had an amazing fitting afternoon with Callaway last week. I personally witnessed one of the players gaining 40m carry distance with the Driver! Resulting in an overall gain of 30m! That’s about 3 clubs different for your approach shot, would you rather hit 5 iron or 8 iron?
With modern technology, it’s never been easier to show you clearly if we can help you gain distance and accuracy. This way you can make an informed decision on whether you can justify the money on a new club. If we can only get you 5m extra distance, you might decide it’s not worth it and I would probably recommend that, but then you know your current equipment is good for you so you’re still winning.
If we show you that you can hit it 30m longer than the club starts to look a lot cheaper. Come along to any of our Fitting/Demo Days or book a personalised appointment, we have a multitude of options to suite your time and budget needs.

Short game ball positoning
I just remembered a really interesting session at the coaching summit about ball position.
For the better players out there consider this....ball position is not only side to side but further and closer to you as well. One of the guys said Steve Ballesteros was believed to have 25 or 26 different ball positions!!
This is fantastic way to make some different short game shots a bit easier or more extreme. So for instance if you want to hit a super high cut lob you could put the ball position further forward but closer to you as well which would encourage a steeper angle of attack to increase your height and spin.
Then for the low running chip shot putting the ball position further back and away from you which would encourage an inside/shallow path to reduce spin. Spin is a killer when it comes to reliable low bump and run.
Next time your out chipping a few shots mess around with it and see what happens, it's lots of fun!
